PUBLIC CONSULTATION REPORT
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Communication and consultation with the public, stakeholders and Aboriginal Community constituted an important component of the Petitcodiac River Causeway Environmental Impact Assessment (PRC EIA). The communication and consultation program was designed to ensure that all parties potentially affected by the project were well informed of the nature and extent of environmental effects (both positive and negative) attributable to the Project Options and Status Quo, and were provided with ample opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with the proponent and the AMEC Study Team. |
Communication and consultation activities were conducted in all the regions of the watershed (i.e., Headwaters - Petitcodiac, Elgin, Salisbury; Lower river west - Hillsborough, Hopewell, Riverside Albert, Alma; Lower river east - Memramcook, Dorchester, Fort Folly; and mid river - Dieppe, Moncton, and Riverview). These activities were ongoing throughout the course of the study; with specific events at key milestones during the study.
The communication and consultation program utilized various tools to ensure that a wide audience was reached. In particular, a dedicated interactive bilingual website was maintained and updated on a regular basis to provide all interested parties with timely, concise and easily understandable information on the technical aspects of the PRC EIA, as well as progress updates, and scheduled consultation events. The website also included an issues tracking log which was used to record and organize comments and questions received during the consultation program.
The communication and consultation program also comprised Open Houses, Town Hall meetings, technical workshops, presentation and meetings with Aboriginal Community, public, stakeholders and other interested groups at various locations within the watershed. These activities were very successful, providing the opportunity for interested parties to partake in meaningful and detailed discussions of all aspects of the PRC EIA.
