Nov. 26, 2002

FREDERICTON (CNB) - The Department of Supply and Services is currently negotiating with the consulting firm expected to conduct the environmental impact assessment (EIA) of the Petitcodiac River Causeway. The announcement was made today by Supply and Services Minister Dale Graham.

"The department, acting as proponent of the EIA, is moving forward with AMEC Earth and Environmental Limited to undertake this important study," Graham said.

AMEC is the lead company in a consortium of consulting firms that have extensive experience in environmental impact assessments. Members of the New Brunswick-based team include Jacques Whitford Environment Ltd., ADI Limited, GEMTEC Limited, the Canadian Hydraulic Centre (CHC) (a division of the National Research Council of Canada) and Gardner Pinfold Consulting Economists Ltd. This corporate team will also retain the services of specialist firms such as GPI Atlantic, and HR Wallingford, as well as authorities on various disciplines from the Maritime provinces and Europe.

The decision to negotiate with AMEC to undertake the environmental impact assessment was the result of a request for proposals issued by the Department of Supply and Services in July.
